Easy Troubleshooting Guide

My lights aren't turning on, what do I do?

Often times your lights will not turn on due to GFI (Ground Fault Interceptor) outlet getting tripped and turning off.  GFI outlets trip when moisture is detected or a there is a surge as a safety feature.  To reset most GFI outlets locate the wall outlet the timer is plugged into and push the Reset button (usually red, white or yellow).

If the power is not restored to your lights unplug the timer and let it dry out from any moisture that might present.  Hit the Reset button again and plug the timer back in.  We will cover all moisture access points as well as possible but every GFI has different sensativity to moisture.

If your lights go out after it rains we ask that you unplug your timers and let it dry out before resetting and plugging back in.  Visually check that light strands are not lying in water.

Automated or timed sprinklers can soak your light strands and trip the GFI outlet.  Please set your sprinklers accordingly that they are not on when your lights are on.  We find morning time is a great time to water if needed.

Lights Come On At Different Times

Another issue we run into is timers not coordinated to come on or turn off at the same time.

The timers we use turn the lights ON at dusk.  The dial allows you to adjust how long they will stay on 2, 4, 6, 8 hours or till dawn. The key here is "dusk".  The placement of the timer will determine what time dusk is.  If you have one timer on the west side of the house and one on the east side of the house the sun will not be visible to them both at the same time.  One will come on earlier than the other.  Trees, patios, windows, bushes and many other objects can impact the timing of "dusk".

Other Common Issues

Occasionally there may be a few random bulbs not lit or even some portions of a string not lit.  It could be the bulbs just need to be screwed in more tightly or possibly replaced.  We are more than happy to come out and investigate and make sure everything is working as intended.

Some outlets are controlled by a light switch, please make sure the light switch is in the on position so that the timer can handle managing when the lights come on.

If you have ground lights or wrapped trees our animal friends are not shy to try to snack on them sometimes.  If you have a strand out in a strange location or the lights just stop at a certain point there is a good chance something has chewed through.  We would never blame a weed either either that would just be silly.
